Ebrard proposes a “cybernetic wall” between Mexico and the US to stop arms trafficking

The former Mexican foreign minister and presidential candidate Marcelo Ebrard proposed on Monday the creation of a “cyber wall” to stop the arms trafficking on the border between Mexico and USAas part of its security strategy known as “angel plan”.

“You have to do two things. First the anti gun cyber wall of Mexicowe do need non-invasive, achievable, available systems, with artificial intelligence, linked to the angel plan to prevent those weapons from entering Mexico”, exposed Ebrard, who seeks to be the official candidate National Regeneration Movement (Brunette) at presidential election June 2024.

Although he did not elaborate more on his proposal, he said that the more than 3,000 kilometers of border between the two countries could be monitored by drones.

“I’m not talking about something impossible. Before we did not have artificial intelligence, today we do”, he argued at a political event in Mexico City.

“And, of course, (we must) demand USA do your part”, he added.

Between 2020 and 2022, more than 24,000 long weapons from the neighboring country that were in the possession of organized crime groups were seized in Mexico, he pointed out.

Since he presented “Plan Ángel” on July 10, eminently focused on the use of technology, Ebrard has focused his actions around the country on promising “the safest Mexico in history”.

Another of the issues on which the event this Monday focused was the safety of women, in a country where more than 10 are murdered every day.

“Everywhere I have been, women tell me: ‘we are not calm in public spaces, we do not travel calm on public transport’”, he exposed.

To solve it, he proposed the creation of the “Violet Angel Link”, with which women can request the support of the National Guard through your mobile phone.

“And install cameras in public transport, connect them all, so that we can receive real-time information on something that is happening from the videos on their cell phones, which is very important.”, he added.

Finally, he emphasized the need to multiply by five the research capacity of the General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR) and its state instances.

“Why five? I estimate that in homicides, femicides and disappearances we need to investigate five more times to bring down impunity”, he impinged.

“If we organize this, we will be the country in the world that will have the fastest macro-application of artificial intelligence in this matter (security).”, he sentenced.
