The Government and anti-Chavismo agree that “sanctions must be lifted,” says Maduro

The agent of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroassured this Tuesday that, during the recent meeting in Brussels between the executive vice president, delcy rodriguezand anti-Chavismo, “there was a consensus” in what “sanctions need to be lifted” against the Caribbean country.

At the dialogue table there was a consensus (…) that Sanctions against Venezuela must be lifted. Well, let the consensus be fulfilled, well”, said the national president in statements offered to the multi-state channel Telesur.

He added that “there must be dialogue and respect“, and “Venezuela follow their social and political processes”.

This Monday, at the invitation of the French president, Emmanuel Macronthe chief negotiator of the opposition in the dialogue with the Government, Gerardo Blydeheld a meeting with the Venezuelan vice president, in which the high representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell.

At the meeting, parallel to the summit of the European Union (EU) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), which was developed in Belgium until this Tuesday, the presidents also attended Gustavo Petro (Colombia), Alberto Fernandez (Argentina) and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (Brazil).

This Tuesday, the anti-Chavista unitary platform (PU) reported that during the meeting he asked for respect for the primaries on October 22, which will define the standard-bearer for the 2024 presidential election.

In addition, it was urgent to resume the dialogue process that it maintained with the Government in Mexicofrozen since last November, to establish guarantees for the presidential elections.

The PU, which explained, through Twitter, that the meeting served to detail its demands in the dialogue, reiterated “the need to resume negotiations” and from “garanticipate that Venezuelans can conquer democracy through a truly free and competitive election processs”.

In the same way, he asked again “the urgent release of all political prisoners and the end of political persecution“, and create “an agreement of political guarantees, but also social, that allow alleviating the suffering of Venezuelans”.
