US has received no response from North Korea over detained soldier

The United States has sent messages to North Korea so that he can at least tell you how the American soldier who crossed the border of that country is doing and who presumably he is in custodybut has not received a response from Pyongyang.

Unfortunately, we have not had any communication or correspondence from the North Koreans.” neither directly nor through the intermediation of other countries, the deputy spokeswoman for the Pentagon said at a press conference, Sabrina Singh.

The representative of the Department of Defense explained that cannot confirm the state of health of the soldier even if he is alive.

We do not know his conditions, or where he is detained, or his state of health.” said Singh, who assured that the United States has put its federal agencies to work at the highest level to “try to find out something else.”

In another press conference, the State Department spokesman, Matthew Millerconfirmed that Washington has sent messages to Pyongyang although he did not want to give details of the channels used.

We have asked them for information about the state of health” of the soldier and also to let him “return safely,” he told reporters.

Miller acknowledged in this sense that the US government is “concerned” about the soldier and his physical condition, “given the treatment” that North Korea has had in the past with other prisoners.

The spokesman admitted in any case that communications between the two countries are always “limited”, despite Washington’s attempts, he assured, to speak with Pyongyang about issues such as the North Korean nuclear program or its “violation” of the resolutions of the UN.

He insisted that the messages relating to the soldier have been sent and he trusted that they have been received, and assured that He is not aware that the soldier had any contact with North Korea before deciding to cross the border.

Private Second Class Travis T King23, crossed the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) last Tuesday and entered North Korean territory while on a sightseeing tour of the Joint Security Area (JSA) in the heart of the border between the two Koreas, which technically remains at war.

This Thursday it emerged that King had spent 48 days in a South Korean prison workshop because, according to the media, he did not pay the fine that was imposed on him in February for kicking and damaging a police car in Seoul.

As a disciplinary measure, the United States decided to return him to his country, but on Monday King fled from Incheon International Airport, which serves Seoul, where he had to take a flight to the United States.

The Pentagon deputy spokeswoman explained that when King left the South Korean airport without boarding his flight, he was not in custody.
