Several soldiers injured after a car bomb attack in northeastern Colombia

Several soldiers were injured this Friday after a vehicle with explosives was detonated on a road in the municipality of Tame, in the Colombian department of Arauca, on the border with Venezuela.

“Reprehensible attack on the road between Arauca and Casanare. Several soldiers were injuredinformed the Colombian president, Gustavo Petrowho ordered the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, to travel to the area to attend “personally the fact”.

The attack occurred on Friday afternoon when a car carrying explosives was detonated near the military base in a rural area called “Naranjitos” in tameaccording to local media reports, which give a preliminary balance of five soldiers wounded.

It is still unknown who is behind these events that take place in an area where there is a strong presence of the ELN -which is in a cessation of offensive actions against the public forces prior to the official ceasefire that begins on August 3- and the Central Staff (EMC)the greatest dissent of the FARC.

“We will not tolerate more events that cause anxiety to the population”sentenced Petro.

Arauca is one of the most troubled regions in the region, with a strong presence of the ELN and dissidents from the FARC that maintain confrontations for the control of the territory.
