He Ministry of Defence Russian has not published official figures for deaths in its ranks since it placed them at 5,937 in September 2022, although independent sources such as the portal jellyfish They estimate up to 47,000 Russian soldiers killed in action.

Both went to the monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviorwhere they lit candles and paid their respects at the tomb of their founders, the saints Sergui and German.

Putin and Lukashenko, who had already visited this place on the lake ladoga in 2019, they spoke with the leaders of the congregation, which is home to 155 monks.

They also had time to greet the parishioners who traveled to Valaampilgrimage destination for many Orthodox believers.

In addition to several chapels, the island also includes a hotel with space for about 300 pilgrimsa farm, orchards and an apiary.

Putin and Lukashenko, both confessing believers, continued this morning in St. Petersburg the talks that began on Sunday.

One of the topics they addressed was the situation of the mercenaries of the wagner groupwhich settled in belarus after the failed armed rebellion that they staged just a month ago.

lukashenko expressed concern on Sunday that Russian mercenaries want to advance to warsaw due to Poland’s support for the Ukrainian Army.

“Maybe I shouldn’t say it, but I will. The Wagnerites have begun to worry us. ´We want to go to the West, give us permission´. And I tell them, why do you want to go to the West? ´To make an excursion to warsawto rzeszow´”said lukashenko at the beginning of the meeting in the Palace of Constantine of St. Petersburg.

This week the Armed forces Belarusians reported joint training with the Wagnerites on the border with Poland, which immediately announced the dispatch of two military units to the area.

In total, there are now a few thousand mercenaries in the former Soviet republic – the Belarusian research team gayun reported on Monday about 3,500 troops -, although Wagner estimates that that number will soon reach 10,000 troops.

Wagner maintains that he currently has 25,000 men.”alive and well”, to which are added the wounded who are recovering.

The American Institute for war study (ISW) reported today that there is “no indication” that the wagnerites have the heavy weapons necessary to launch an offensive against Ukraine either Poland.
