Those expelled, in an operation lasting several months that has involved the mobilization of hundreds of buses, have mainly arrived in NY (over 10,800), Washington D.C. (10,600), Chicago (4,500), Philadelphia (2,000), according to information provided by the Republican.

All these cities, along with Denver and The Angelswhich have also received a few hundred, are described by Abbott as “sanctuary cities”, as he usually calls cities governed by Democratic mayors who tend to have a less strict immigration policy.

Of all the cities that Abbott cites, New York has ended up absorbing the majority of these immigrants, who have moved on many occasions and on their own from other cities to the Big Appleattracted not only by the supposed abundance of opportunities, but also because the city gives free housing to any homeless person.

However, the New York City Hall has insisted for months that its services are saturated, and mainly its network of shelters, to the point that it has given immigrants housed in these establishments a period of two months to leave them.

Along with that, he has handed out leaflets, both at the border with Mexico as in New York itself, in which it is explained in English and Spanish that the city is very expensive, that there is very little housing available and that it is preferable that they go to other cities.

Despite all these messages, in recent days thousands of people have continued to arrive – this time predominantly emigrants from the west of Africaas Senegal– That they have not found accommodation in the hotels requisitioned by the Mayor’s Office and have ended up sleeping and “camping“in the middle of the street.
