Kamala Harris Says Her Earned Freedoms Are ‘Under Attack’, Turns Down DeSantis’ Invitation

The vice president of USA, Kamala Harrisaffirmed this Tuesday that the liberties of minorities are “under attack” in this country and emphatically rejected an official invitation made to him by the governor of Floridathe republican Ron DeSantisto discuss the controversial new guidelines for teaching African-American history in the state.

“Right now, across our country, hard-fought and hard-won liberties are under full attack.Harris said today in Orlando (central Florida), during a convention of the Women’s Missionary Society of the African Methodist Church.

“We see extremists attack our friends and neighbors for who they are and what they love. And meanwhile, these same extremists have refused to pass reasonable gun safety laws to keep our children and places of worship safe.”, he added.

On July 21, the vice president harshly criticized Jacksonvillealso in Floridathe new teaching guidelines in the southern state for spreading the theory that some slaves benefited from being slaves because they learned trades.

As reported today by the NBC channel, DeSantis, a candidate for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidentialsaid Monday that Harris “does not miss the opportunity to appear in Florida without prior notice”.

In addition, he invited her to participate in a “open and honest dialogue” about the guidelines that she criticized, as have even members of the Republican Partylike the African-American senator Tim Scottwho is also seeking the nomination.

Harris gave a 20-minute speech to a standing ovation from the audience.

According to Orlando media, his participation in the event is part of a summer travel program to meet with voters throughout the US.

The convention is held at the County Convention Center Orange and brings together 3,000 delegates from nearly forty countries representing the oldest African-American Protestant church.

Harris also defended women’s reproductive rights by calling for “a future where every woman has the freedom to make decisions about her own body”.
