The opposition accuses AMLO of “indoctrinating” children with new school books

The opposition mexican accused this Wednesday the president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador of “indoctrinate” to children with the new free textbooks, the compulsory material that Secretary of Public Education (SEP) distributes in schools.

Marko Cortesleader of the conservative National Action Party (PAN), denounced that Mexico live one of “the greatest tragedies in its history“in basic education caused by a government”who does not want a prepared people, but indoctrinated to be able to manipulate them and who hates science”.

Don’t mess with the children, President, you have already done a lot of damage to our country and to the current generation. We are not going to allow him to also harm the next generations”, indicated in a statement the leader of the BREADthe largest opposition party.

The controversy began after an amparo that obtained the National Union of Parents last May, in which the Third District Court in Administrative Matters ordered the SEP to review the content of the textbooks and submit their redesign to prior consultations.

The conservative organization has questioned whether the new books contain education on sexual diversity, diverse families and teachings on reproductive organs at the elementary level.

But other politicians and experts have also criticized the fact that the materials include references against “neoliberalism”, an ideology that López Obrador attributes to governments prior to his, in addition to content that is aligned with the ideology of the president.

Despite the judicial order to stop the delivery of the material, President López Obrador asserted on Tuesday that “there is no impediment” so that the books are ready for the return to school on August 28.

The Government of López Obrador is lying when it says that there is no legal impediment to distributing the textbooks, the books should not even have been printed, they were printed in defiance of a court order”, the PAN leader now responded.

Added to the criticism Alejandro Morenoleader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), in which he accused the ruler National Regeneration Movement (Brunette) to see “the little ones as their political loot”.

It is aberrational that the Government of Morena intends to mess with the girls and boys of Mexico, they try to implant their ideology through textbooks and deprive them of the knowledge that forms the great minds of the future”, Moreno pointed out this Wednesday on his social networks.

Although the president has dismissed the criticism as a reaction from conservatives, the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), a dissident and radical cell of the teachers’ union, has also rejected the new books for failing to consult teachers, the newspaper El Universal reported.

Free textbooks are the educational material that guides compulsory education in Mexico since 1960 and now more than 160 million copies are delivered each year at the preschool, primary and secondary levels.
