Russia claims it shot down seven Ukrainian drones within 200 kilometers of Moscow

Russia claimed on Thursday to have shot down seven Ukrainian drones in the Kaluga region, less than 200 km southwest of Moscowin a context of increasing attacks of this type against the Russian capital.

Russian forces “overnight prevented an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist drone attack over the Kaluga region,” some 180 km from Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Six drones were shot down by air defense systems,” according to the same source, and the incident did not cause “victims or damage.”

For his part, the regional governor, Viacheslav Chapshasaid later on Telegram that another drone, the seventh, was detected and shot down in this region although “it did not affect people or infrastructure.”

Drone attacks have multiplied in recent weeks on Russian soil, often targeting Moscow and the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula.

On Tuesday the Russian authorities claimed to have neutralized a Ukrainian drone attack in Moscow, although they admitted that one of the devices had hit a building in the capital, which had already been the target of a similar attack.
