Petro says he trusts Colombian justice and empowers a lawyer to represent him

Colombian President, Gustavo Petrosaid this Friday that he trusts justice after his eldest son, Nicholas Petro Burgosrevealed to the Prosecutor’s Office that part of the allegedly illegal money he received entered the 2022 electoral campaign, and empowered a lawyer to represent him.

According to Petro, “It will be the judges in their different powers who legally define what corresponds” and to that end he added: “I have granted power to the associate judge of the Criminal Cassation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, Mauricio Pava Lugoto represent me.”

“Regarding the institution, without any hesitationI affirm and reiterate that no one can be above the law and that justice must be applied impartially, with due process and all constitutional guarantees.”, added the president in a statement.
