Petro completes one year of mandate in Colombia with 61% disapproval

The disapproval of the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petroremains at 61%, the same level as in June, according to a survey revealed this Wednesday, in the week that marks the first year of his term.

According to the signature invader33% of those surveyed approved the management of the first leftist president of the country, whose period has been marked by frequent changes in the cabinet, a tortuous relationship with the legislature and media scandals.

The most recent case splashes the financing of his presidential campaign and compromises his son Nicholascaptured on July 29 by the Prosecutor’s Office on charges of money laundering and illicit enrichment.

The survey was carried out between July 27 and August 6, the period in which the scandal broke out and which led to the confession of the president’s son about millions of dollars that would have entered the campaign without being registered in official accounting.

Petro’s approval rating remained intact compared to June, at 33%, contrasting with the 56% it held a year ago when he took office as president with an ambitious battery of social reforms.

Since he became president Narino Palaceon August 7, 2022, Petro only retains 7 of the 18 ministers of his original cabinet and his critics accuse him of disorganization and improvisation in the processing of his projects before Congress, where he does not have majorities.

In April, disapproval was 57% and in February it was 51%, according to Invamer. When the government was installed it was 20%.

Asked if they think that “things in Colombia are they getting better or worse”, 69% of those surveyed opted for the second option, 1% less than in June.

The survey interviewed 1,500 people in Bogota, Cali, Medellin, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga and has a margin of error of +/- 2.53%.
