Trump, 77, was arraigned Tuesday on racketeering charges and a series of election crimes after an extensive two-year investigation into his efforts to nullify in Georgia his loss in 2020 to Joe Biden.

The prosecution is based on laws generally used to take down gangsters.

This is the fourth criminal indictment for Trump, who is running to be the Republican presidential nominee, in less than six months.

In a statement, Trump’s lawyers criticized the “leak of an alleged and premature indictment before witnesses had testified or grand juries had deliberated”.
