Texas governor claims he moved buoys to the US side of the Rio Grande

The governor of the state of Texas, greg abbottaffirmed this Monday that the buoy barrier installed on the border Rio Grande she was displaced to US territory, in response to accusations that she was on the Mexican side.

The statement was made one day before his government will go to federal court to defend its anti-immigrant measures, after a lawsuit by the US Department of Justice (DOJ).

Abbott said that the Democratic Biden government has not been concerned about the lives of migrants either and gave the example of the death of an infant who drowned in the Rio Grande (Bravo River in Mexico) before the buoys were installed in mid-July.

Criticism against the buoys increased earlier this month when the body of a migrant was found stuck in the buoys.

The Abbott government defended itself at the time, saying the migrant died upriver and that the current had washed the body up to the buoys.

The government of Texas will face off tomorrow with the prosecutors of USA in a federal court of Austin for the installation of the buoys, for which Mexico He has also filed a formal complaint.

A court document filed by the DOJ ensures that the buoys were located in Mexican territory. In this regard, Abbott said Monday that he knew of the allegations and that he moved the buoys to US territory.

The floating barrier is part of the initiative Lonely Star of Abbott, launched in March 2021 to stop the arrival of migrants and which has included the displacement of soldiers from the National Guard from at least 15 red states.
