North Korea announces satellite launch soon

Is Pyongyang really aiming for the stars? North Korea has announced the launch of a satellite in the coming days. A project that was greatly disapproved of by the United States and South Korea, who denounced the “illegal” company.

“We call on North Korea to refrain from any further illegal activities and call on Pyongyang to engage in serious and sustained diplomatic action,” the US official said. At the same time, the Japanese Coast Guard warned of the launch of a “satellite rocket” into the sea.

In fact, the United States and South Korea suspect Pyongyang of launching an ICBM that uses technology similar to satellite launchers, which they say would amount to “a flagrant violation of ONU Security Council resolutions.” “No matter what excuses North Korea tries to find, it cannot justify this illegal act,” Seoul said in a statement.

First unsuccessful launch in May

North Korea, for its part, has made developing a military spy satellite a priority to “handle the dangerous military activities of the US and its vassals.” But on May 31, on its first launch attempt, the satellite crashed into the Yellow Sea after air alerts were raised in South Korea and the Japanese archipelago of Okinawa.

The new launch coincides with the start of US-South Korean military exercises that began on Monday and are expected to last until August 31. Thus, Pyongyang warned of the risk of a “thermonuclear” war on the peninsula, which would further increase decades of tension over nuclear weapons in the Far East.
