A white man shoots three black men to death in a racial hate crime in Florida

A shooter motivated by racial “hate” fatally shot three black men Saturday in Jacksonville, Floridaand committed suicide after a confrontation with police, authorities said.

“His target was a certain group of people, blacks. That’s what he said he wanted to kill. And that is very clear,” Sheriff TK Waters said of the attacker at a press conference.

According to Waters, a white male in his 20s, who has yet to be identified, began shooting at a discount store armed with an AR-type rifle and a handgun.

Manifestos discovered by the gunman’s family shortly before the attack, show “the disgusting ideology of hate”, The officer explained, adding that hand-drawn swastikas were found on at least one of the weapons.

He shooting it happened near the center of higher education Edward Watersa university historically associated with the African-American community in that southern state of the country.

The federal police (FBI) will open an investigation into the attack as a hate crimeaccording to Sherri Onks, a special agent for the FBI in the town of Jacksonville.

The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, rejected the “horrible” shooting and described the gunman as “garbage”.

“He attacked people because of their race, that is totally unacceptable”said DeSantis, who is running for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

“This man committed suicide rather than face the situation and accept responsibility for his actions, so he took the coward’s way out.” added the politician.

He shooting Saturday, which killed two men and a woman, is the latest in a wave of shooting attacks across the United States over the weekend.

The mass shootings they have become more common in the country, where in many states citizens have easy access to firearms.

Earlier on Saturday, police reported seven people hospitalized for a mass shooting during the Caribbean festival held in the city of Boston (northeast).
