Bukele exceeds 68% of voting intention for re-election in El Salvador, according to a survey

The president of The Savior, Nayib Bukelehas 68.4% of voting intention for the 2024 electionin which he will seek his reelection despite claims that it is unconstitutional, according to a survey released this Monday.

According to the study of Citizen Studies Center (CEC) of the private University Francisco Gavidia (UFG), the results indicate that the formula of Bukele and his vice president, Felix Ulloa“would go for a second term”.

Bukele, despite the fact that he himself maintained in the past that immediate re-election is prohibited in the Constitution, announced in September 2022 that he will seek to remain in power in 2024.

This came after the Constitutional Chamberelected by the majority-government Congress in a questioned process after the dismissal of her predecessors, changed a 2004 criteria that stated that a president should wait 10 years to seek the Presidency again.

The CEC survey indicates that “far behind” of Bukele are the candidates of the Nationalist Republican Alliance (Sand), Joel Sanchez (4.3%); Farabundo Martí Front for National Liberation (FMLN), Manuel Flores (2.8%); Our time, Luis Parada (2 and Solidarity Force, Jose Renderos (1.5%).

9.9% of those interviewed said that “will abstain from voting in the presidential elections”, 9.2% who will annul their vote and 1.9% did not respond.

The results indicate that NI would win 58 of 60 seats, while the opponents Arena and FMLN would keep one deputy each.

“With Hundt’s method or rule, the electoral projection benefits the ruling party and punishes the small parties. without a doubt”, indicated the CEC.

The CEC survey was carried out between August 15 and 21, 2023, with a national sample of 1,920 interviews, and with a sampling error of plus or minus 2.8% and 95% confidence.

The Savior must hold in 2024 the elections to the Presidency, Legislative Assembly, Mayors and Central American Parliament (They talk).

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, the presidential and legislative elections will be held, while Sunday, March 3, will be the elections of paralace and mayors.

If necessary, the second round or ballot of the presidential elections would be held on this last date.
