Ecuador approves repeating the legislative elections abroad in person

He National Electoral Council (CNE) of Ecuador approved this Wednesday that the repetition of the legislative elections for voters abroad will be held on October 15 in person, the same day as the second round of the face-to-face elections.

In a statement, the CNE reported that, after a meeting of its plenary session, it approved the “budget and call for the repetition of face-to-face votes abroad”, which will take place on Sunday, October 15.

The process will take place in person in the 101 electoral zones abroad”, the vote reception boards, in the three special electoral constituencies: Canada and USA; Europe, Asia and Oceania; and Latin Americahe Caribbean and Africa.

The repetition of the process is due to the fact that, after the votes were annulled, Ecuadorians residing abroad must choose two representatives for each constituency (six in total) to integrate the National Assembly (Parliament).

The CNE reported that it also approved the “update of the guidelines, calendar, operational plan, risk and contingency matrix, as well as the budget set at more than 2.8 million dollars for the repetition of the elections”.

The CNE plenary session annulled the presidential and legislative votes abroad last Friday, after many voters complained about not having been able to cast their votes due to problems in the telematic voting system applied by the Council itself.

However, the CNE considered that the repetition of the vote would not affect the general result for President of the Republic, for which reason it was declared that it was not necessary to vote again among the emigrants for that dignity.
