Gabonese coup junta orders immediate reopening of all borders

The military junta that carried out a coup in Gabon On August 30, he ordered today the “immediate” reopening of the country’s land, air, and sea borders, which had remained closed since the uprising.

This measure was taken to “preserve respect for the rule of law and good relations with our neighbors and with all the States of the world”according to the spokesman for the self-styled Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRIthe military junta), colonel Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbiwho spoke this Saturday on Gabonese state television.

Likewise, the coup junta seeks with this decision to “demonstrate” its “firm will” to maintain their “international commitments”.

The coup leaders took power this Wednesday, a few minutes after the electoral authorities of Gabon announce the victory of the deposed president, ali bongoin the controversial elections of July 26.

The military – like the opposition – then assured that the elections were not transparent, credible or inclusive and accused the Executive of governing “irresponsibly and unpredictably”, thus deteriorating the “social cohesion”.

In addition, they put Bongo drum under house arrest for “high treason against state institutions” and “mass embezzlement of public funds”, among other crimes.

The strongman of the military junta promised this Saturday that the military will meet with Gabon’s political parties to build “strong institutions” and launch democratic reforms, before calling “free” elections for which there are no dates yet.
