Portugal will send a plane to Morocco to repatriate Portuguese who wish to do so

Portugal will send to Marrakesh (Morocco) a plane from its air force to repatriate Portuguese who wish to do so, after the earthquake on Friday night in the Arab country.

The Portuguese Government provided in a statement the consular emergency telephone numbers and the Portuguese Embassy in Rabat so that the nationals who want to leave the Morocco can do so on board the plane.

The death toll from the earthquake that hit last night Morocco has surpassed the barrier of one thousand, up to 1,037, in the balance given until 1:00 p.m. local time (GMT+1), the same as the injured, which were counted at 1,204, 721 of them serious.

The earthquake was felt in Portugal moderately, where no victims or material damage were recorded, reported the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

The Portuguese president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousaalso conveyed to the press his “solidarity“with the North African country for this”catastrophe brutal” and stated that “everything is prepared” to send help, “waiting for Morocco’s order.”

He added that, “fortunately“, they have no proof that “no Portuguese has been included in the list of dead, injured or missing.”

In statements to the Portuguese newspaper El Observador, the Minister of Internal Administration, Jose Luis Carneirospecified that Portugal has communicated, through its embassy in Moroccoto the Civil Protection of the Arab country for its total availability to send search and rescue teams, like those sent to Turkey in its day.
