Mohamed VI decrees three days of mourning for the victims of the earthquake in Morocco

The king Mohamed VI of Morocco He declared three days of mourning in the country for the earthquake that left at least 1,037 dead and another 1,204 injured, and ordered the deployment of an emergency program to care for the victims and rehabilitate damaged buildings.

After a work session to examine the situation after the earthquake, the sovereign expressed the gratitude of Morocco to “the many brother and friendly countries that have expressed their solidarity with the Moroccan people in this difficult situation“, indicates a statement from the Royal Cabinet published by the state agency MAP.

Leaders and governments from different parts of the world have offered help to Morocco after the devastating earthquake which has left several hundred dead and injured in a dozen provinces of the North African country.

According to the latest data released this Saturday by the Moroccan Ministry of the Interior, victims were registered in a dozen provinces: Al Haouz-south of Marrakech and close to the epicenter-, with 542 deaths, followed by Taroudant (321 fatalities), Chichaoua (103 deaths), Ouarzazate (38), Marrakech (13), Azilal (11), Agadir (5), Casablanca (3), Al Youssufia (1) and in Tinguir (1).

According to a seismic alert bulletin released by the National Institute of Geophysics Moroccan earthquake, magnitude 7, shook the northern Moroccan region of Marrakesh and it occurred at 11:11 p.m. local time (22:11 GMT on Saturday) at a depth of 8 kilometers.
