Lula celebrates Chilean democracy 50 years after the coup, remembers Allende and repudiates authoritarianism

The Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silvastated this Monday that the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état in Chili “It is a day to celebrate democracy”, pay tribute to the deceased Salvador Allende and repudiate all types of authoritarianism.

“More than remembering the 50 years of military coup in Chile and the death of Allende, it is a day in which we reaffirm democracy as an essential value for human beings”Lula wrote on his social networks this Monday, September 11.

According to the Brazilian president, South Americans must, on this date, “celebrate democracy” and “together“build a”history of freedom, of fighting hunger and of fighting against all forms of inequality”.

The Brazilian progressive leader could not attend the events held in Santiago de Chile for the 50th anniversary of the coup led by the general Augusto Pinochet because he was in the India participating in the G20 Summit.

However, his Government sent a large representation, led by the Ministers of Justice, Flavio Dinoand Human Rights, Silvio Almeida.

Lula, who was forged in politics from the unions and faced the dictatorship that prevailed in Brazil between 1964 and 1985, also cited in his message the late Allende, who committed suicide in the midst of the coup attack on the headquarters of the Government.
