Mexican opposition accuses the public budget for 2024 of being “irresponsible”

He National Action Party (PAN), main opposition party of Mexicodescribed this Tuesday as “irresponsible” and “poorly distributed” the 2024 public budget because it grants a large amount of resources to emblematic works of the current Government and to the Secretariat of National Defense.

“He Federation Expenditure Budget proposed by the federal government for next year is absolutely irresponsible. It raises the largest fiscal deficit in the last 36 years, of 4.9% of the gross domestic product (GDP)“, Fernando Rodríguez, secretary of studies of the National Executive Committee of the PAN, said in a statement.

The project that Government of Mexico presented last Friday to Congress, foresees an increase in total net spending to 9.02 trillion pesos (about $530 billion) by 2024, a real growth of 7.1% compared to 2023.

Of that budget for next year, marked by the 2024 presidential elections, just over 67.6% will be allocated to spending identified with social development.

Rodríguez accused the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador of not complying with being the most austere in history and, on the contrary, “turned out to be the most wasteful and in debt“to fulfill works”pharaonic” which turned out to be an expense and not an investment.

He BREAD He also criticized that 19.2% of the budget corresponds to debt, which, according to calculations, increased by 41% in real annual terms.

“One of every five pesos that the Government will earn will be through debt, in order to be able to pay for the Government’s electoral strategies. There is no long-term development vision, but rather a very short electoral view”, he emphasized.

Furthermore, he recalled that there are “huge cuts” to the health budget, which will lead more people to live in poverty, because despite the social support that the poorest receive, they have to spend on private doctors or buying medicines.

Rodríguez also warned about the “huge budget” who will now receive the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) because, he assured, it is more than double the previous year.

“It is one more step towards the total militarization of the country”, he warned.

In that sense, he stressed that the budget is “poorly distributed” and pointed out that this shows what really matters to the Mexican Government, since a large part will be allocated to the Sedena by the infrastructure area, while at the Ministry of Public Education and Health Their budget has been reduced “dramatic”.
