Opposition party accuses military personnel of “shooting” indigenous people in the Venezuelan Amazon

The Venezuelan opposition party Popular will This Friday he accused the military of “shooting” indigenous people in operations in the Amazon of the country, where on Wednesday there was a clash between the Armed Forces and suspected illegal miners, which left two dead and six injured, according to the military institution.

“We denounce what is happening (in the Yapacana national park). (…) They are shooting at the indigenous people with real bullets. The regime’s only excuse is that it carries out an eviction due to pollution, but does not realize the seriousness of the matter. “Instead of protecting indigenous peoples, they favor the mafias that control the area.”he assured Romel Guzamananational training leader.

The opponent, according to a party press release, assured that the operations carried out by the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) “He seeks to kill the indigenous people” in Yapacana, where – he indicated – 8,000 people live, and not “take care of the territory of irregular groups”.

In the text, Popular will expressed its rejection “massacre against this Venezuelan ethnic group that is experiencing, now more than ever, the worsening of the country’s crisis”.

According to official data, three of the injured are military personnel.

This is the first time that the military institution has reported an act of violence during these expulsions in the Amazon, an operation ordered by the president Nicolás Maduro which seeks to “clean up” this region and then initiate an environmental recovery plan, especially due to the use of mercury in this territory.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López guaranteed yesterday that FANB will continue operations against illegal mining in this border area with Colombia and Brazil.
