Popular Brazilian healer João Teixeira is sentenced to 118 years in prison for sexual rape

The famous Brazilian healer João de Deus, whose name is João Teixeira Faria, was sentenced this Friday to more than 118 years in prison for raping four women, according to the court of justice of the state of Goiás (Center).

Judge Marcos Boechat, author of the decision, concluded the analysis in the first instance of a total of 17 cases against the healer, for which he had already accumulated unfavorable sentences.

The crimes related to the sentences announced this Friday were committed between 2010 and 2017 and involved 18 people.

John of Goddetained since December 2018, he committed abuse during his spiritual consultations at Casa Dom Inácio de Loyola, his temple in the city of Abadiânia, about 100 kilometers from the Brazilian capital, Brasília.

The judge also imposed compensation for moral damages to the victims of up to 100 thousand reais (around 20.5 thousand dollars).

The 81-year-old healer is currently under house arrest.

The abuses, committed between 1973 and 2018, began to be publicized through the testimonies of twelve victims on the Brazilian network TV Globo.
