El Salvador records a rate of between 2.3 and 2.4 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the Police

The Savior records a rate of homicides of between 2.3 and 2.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, as revealed this July by the head of the National Civil Police (PNC), Mauricio Arriaza Chicas, who further revealed that this Central American country is an “international reference of security”.

Arriaza Chicas did not detail how many homicides have been recorded so far in 2023, but noted that “We are at 452 days of homicides so far in the 2019-2023 presidential period.”

The director of the PNC attributed the decrease in deaths to the government’s Territorial Control plan and an emergency regime measure, implemented since March 2022 after an increase in homicides on a weekend and with which it seeks to combat gangs.
