China calls the United States an “empire of lies” in reaction to a Washington report

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the China evaluated the U.S as an “empire of lies” in reaction to a recent State Department report from the North American country that accused the Asian giant of investing billions of dollars to spread disinformation globally.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs argued this Saturday that Washington’s report, in itself, is disinformation, as it distorts the facts and the truth.

He highlighted that the United States is the inventor of “instrumentalization of the global information space” and uses it for propaganda and infiltration under the name “global engagement”, describing it as a source of disinformation and the command center of “perceptual warfare”.

The spokesperson’s statement made reference to historical examples, such as the Operation Mockingbird, who manipulated the media during the Cold War, as well as spreading false information to justify the wars in Iraq and Syria.

For its part, Beijing took the opportunity to once again defend itself against accusations made about China’s policy against human rights in Xinjiang, which it described as “huge lies”.

Some in the United States may think they can prevail in information warfare as long as they produce enough lies. But the people of the world are not blind.” the statement said.

The United States on Thursday accused China of promoting censorship and “digital authoritarianism” around the world through “deceptive and coercive methods” as part of its propaganda efforts.

These are the conclusions of a report published by the US State Department under the title “How the People’s Republic of China seeks to change the global information landscape.”

The document warns all countries that Beijing “invests billions of dollars every year in manipulating information” to promote positive opinions about China.

The State Department released the report despite the policy of rapprochement between the two governments, which materialized with several visits by North American officials to Beijing to establish “stable communication channels”.

The two countries are also in talks to organize a meeting between United States President Joe Bien and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, which Washington intends to take place before the end of the year.
