Venezuela issues arrest warrant for Juan Guaidó for “fictitious government”

The attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saabannounced this Thursday that the Public Ministry has issued an arrest warrant against the former president of Parliament Juan Guaidóexiled in U.S since April, whom he accuses of various crimes, including money laundering.

Speaking to journalists, Saab explained that, in addition to issuing the arrest warrant, three prosecutors assigned to the case will “the respective red alert request for Interpol so this guy pays for these crimes”.

Guaidó, opponent who presided over the so-called “interim government” in Venezuelawhich was recognized by U.S and other countries between January 2019 and the end of 2022, is also accused of treason, usurpation of functions, profit or embezzlement of money, titles or public assets and association.

Using the figure of a fictitious government, it caused losses to the Venezuelan State“, said the prosecutor, who estimates the amount embezzled by the anti-Chavistas at US$19 billion.

The official cited a “judgment”from a court in the North American country which, according to him, indicates that the former deputy“accessed the assets of subsidiaries of (state oil company) PDVSA in the United States and used them to finance himself”.

He public ministry opened 23 investigations against Guaidó for alleged crimes committed in “interim government” and five other cases related to a Venezuelan company in Colombiabut he never mentioned an arrest warrant against him, until today.
