NATO begins annual nuclear maneuvers with 60 aircraft in southern Europe

O NATO its annual nuclear exercise begins this Monday Constant noonlong-planned, with up to 60 aircraft taking part in training flights over southern Europe.

Exercise is a routine activity training that has been carried out annually for more than a decade, indicated the Atlantic Alliance is a statement.

The maneuvers will feature the participation of 13 allied countries and a mix of different types of aircraft, including advanced fighters and American bombers B-52s that will fly from U.S.

They will also participate conventional fighters and surveillance and refueling aircraft.

Every year an ally of NATO different welcomes the Constant noonand on this occasion training flights will take place Italy, Croatia and the sea Mediterranean.

“Our exercise will help ensure the credibility, effectiveness and security of our nuclear deterrent force.“, indicated the secretary general of NATOJens Stoltenberg, who added that “sends a clear message that NATO will protect and defend all allies.”

Fighter planes capable of carrying nuclear warheads take part in the exercise, but no actual bombs are used during the maneuvers.

The Alliance stressed that these maneuvers “they are not linked to current world events” and stressed that most of the training takes place at least a thousand kilometers from Russian borders.

The strategic concept of NATO makes it clear that “the fundamental purpose of the nuclear capability of the NATO is to preserve peace, prevent coercion and deter aggression“, and emphasizes that “As long as nuclear weapons exist, the NATO will continue to be a nuclear alliance”.

The exercise will last until October 26th.
