Israel-Hamas war: promise of ‘continuous flow’ of aid to Gaza

Humanitarian aid could be delivered a little easier to the Gaza Strip. While the Palestinian territory remains under siege due to the war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist group, first aid trucks began returning to Gaza over the weekend. US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed on Sunday that the Gaza Strip will now benefit from a “continuous flow” of humanitarian aid, the White House, the residence of the American president, said.

After a second convoy of trucks entered the Gaza Strip from Egypt on Sunday, Biden and Netanyahu in a telephone conversation “confirmed that from now on there will be a continuous flow of this life-saving aid into Gaza” for the Palestinian population.

Two days after the Hamas attack on October 7, Israel imposed a “total blockade” on Gaza, which had already been under Israeli blockade for more than 16 years, cutting off water, electricity and food supplies. The UN (United Nations) spoke of a “catastrophic situation” and reported that at least 1.4 million Palestinians had been displaced.

Ambulance for fuel delivery

On Sunday, about fifteen trucks carrying humanitarian aid crossed the Egyptian Rafah crossing towards the Gaza Strip. Fuel was also transported from Egypt. The lack of this product threatens the work of hospitals, in particular the incubators for more than 120 premature newborns, UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund) warned.

Israeli bombing damaged 165,000 homes, or half the homes in the Gaza Strip, according to Hamas authorities. 20,000 were destroyed or made uninhabitable. The Israeli army has called on civilians in the northern Gaza Strip to flee south for safety. But merciless attacks on the territory continue to affect the southern part.

This Monday, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, called for “more help, faster.” Personally, he also said he supported the humanitarian ceasefire called for by UN chief Antonio Guterres. This topic will be discussed by the foreign ministers of 27 EU member states at a meeting in Luxembourg.
