War in Ukraine: Vladimir Zelensky is “not ready” to negotiate with Russia

No negotiations without troop withdrawal. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said on Sunday that he is “not ready” for negotiations with Russia. “(The United States) knows that I am not prepared to talk to terrorists because their word is worthless,” he said on NBC.

The Ukrainian president commented on reports that US and European officials are discussing negotiations with his government to end the war with Russia.

“Difficult situation”

He also spoke after a senior Ukrainian commander said this week that the two armies were trapped in a war of attrition and position. “At the moment I have no relations with the Russians and they know my position,” he said, adding that “they must leave our territory, and only then the world can begin diplomacy.” According to him, the conflict is in a “difficult situation”, but not at a dead end.

“It’s no secret to anyone on the front line, we don’t have air defense,” he recalled. “That’s why Russia controls the skies. If they control the entire sky, we will not be able to move forward quickly – until we have air defense.”

The front line, more than 1,000 km long, has remained virtually motionless for almost a year, despite the counter-offensive that Ukraine has been waging since June in an attempt to liberate the occupied territories of the East and South.
