More than two months after his disappearance, the body of a hiker was discovered with his faithful dog by his side.
Rich Moore, 71, disappeared with dog Finney on August 19 as they headed to Blackhead Peak in southwestern Colorado.
A helicopter team initially searched for Rich after he was reported missing, searching an area where his car was parked towards the summit – but he was not found.
A hunter discovered his body on October 30 in a valley southeast of the summit, with Finney still waiting by his owner’s side.
The sheriff’s office and local police recovered Rich’s body and took little Finney to the vet for treatment.
The trail is three miles long and has an elevation of 2,500 feet — and is described as “rugged, rocky and steep,” according to The Mercury News.
The path starts on a road, but the last part is an unkempt ‘social path’.
A member of the search and rescue team, Delinda Vanne-Brightyn, said on Facebook: “We searched just below the ridge and just west down the mountain towards where his car was.
“He was found 4 kilometers east of the mountaintop where we were taken by helicopter.”
Rich’s cause of death has not been released, but officials say foul play is not suspected.
It is unknown how his little dog survived two months, but the pup was reunited with his family.
Another dog survived dangerous conditions in the Welsh mountains for two weeks after going missing while on a walk.
