Although he did not explain whether this is Lima’s compliance with the international sanctions that still weigh VenezuelaI say that “Alleging the application of unilateral coercive measures, which are illegal, to carry out a kidnapping (of the team) is inhumane.”

“We demand from the Government of Peru the immediate cessation of aggressions against our team and the Venezuelan people, and assuming its obligations within the scope of respect for international law”, added Gil.

Venezuela drew 1-1 with Peru on Tuesday at Lima’s National Stadium.consolidating itself in fourth place in the Qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and leaving Peru in last place in the South American competition table.

Hours before the game, representatives of the Venezuelan opposition rejected the identity check of foreigners that the Peruvian immigration authority announced it would carry out at the entrance to the stadium, which they considered an act of xenophobia.

Boluarte declared yesterday that “hundreds of Venezuelans” are voluntarily leaving the Andean country via the border with Ecuador, after the deadline to regularize their immigration status on November 10th expired.

The Migration Office reported on that date that more than 90% of foreigners who requested the regularization process were Venezuelans, which exceeds one million in Peru.
