New earthquake shakes northwest China’s Xinjiang region

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 shook the Chinese region of Xinjiang (northwest) this Tuesday, with no casualties reported so far, reported the Center for Seismological Networks of the China.

The earthquake was registered at 9:46 am on Tuesday (01:46 GMT), and had its epicenter in the Artush region, in Xinjiang province, in a border area with Kyrgyzstan, reports the state agency Xinhua.

The earthquake occurs after another earthquake last night left at least 111 dead in Gansu province, also in the northwest of the country.

Authorities have not reported any personal or property damage from this earthquake to date.

This second earthquake was located more than 3,000 kilometers away from the firstin an area inhabited by ethnic minorities Uyghur and Kyrgyzstan.
