VIDEO. China tests earthquake survivors facing freezing temperatures

In China, survivors of the deadly earthquake that hit the country on Monday night are living through hell. On Monday evening, the ground shook in the northeast of the country. Shock magnitude: 6.2. Thousands of people are stranded on the streets as record cold snaps hit the disaster zone. Temperatures down to -33°C were recorded. “I have never experienced anything like this, and I am 70 years old,” said Dahejia resident Ma Wenchang, stunned.

For people sleeping on the streets, the only sources of heat are outdoor stoves and blankets raised from the rubble. 2,500 tents, 20,000 coats and 5,000 cots were sent to the site. But this is not enough to meet the needs of survivors. “Last night, ten children slept in one bed,” said a resident who managed to take shelter in a tent. 87,000 people were transferred to these temporary shelters.

Thousands of firefighters and rescuers were sent to the scene of the disaster. More than 130 people were killed and 1,000 were injured. This is the deadliest earthquake to hit China since 2014. More earthquakes may occur in the coming days.
