A disillusioned kingdom seeks Christmas magic. This year there is a big shortage as the New Year approaches. Generation after generation of traditional Disney films have rocked the holiday season. After Cinderella, released in France on December 17, 1950, the public plunged into Christmas and New Year with The Jungle Book, Robin Hood, The Lion King or, for most young people, The Snow Queen. Let’s mention just a few of the great classics.

The big-eared firm, celebrating its centenary, continues to honor tradition, but in recent years the charm seems to have faded. Disney’s latest film, Wish: Asha and the Good Star, opened promisingly in France… but flopped at the American box office. The critics are murderous. Le Parisien thus deplores the plot, which is “stunningly naive and completely over-the-top.” A “pretty ugly” feature film that “doesn’t fulfill our wish for a happy Disney Christmas.”
