More than 2.2 million people arrived at the US southern border in 2023

The magnitude of the migration crisis on the southern border of U.S has resulted in the arrival of more than 2.2 million migrants so far this year, according to Customs and Border Protection.

According to the aforementioned office, from January to November 2023, 2,240,000 arrived at the borderwhile in the same period in 2022 there were 2,326,711 migrants who attended and 1,856,332 in 2021.

Mexicomore than 700,000 people that arrived at the southern border of USAis the country with the highest number of migrants in official records, followed by Guatemala, Honduras and Colombia.

With the aim of controlling migration across the border, a delegation representing the American president Joe Bidenwill travel on Wednesday to Mexico urgently negotiate with the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

He Department of State American announced in a statement its intention to research “measures” that allow the reopening of all border ports, as some of them had to temporarily close due to the magnitude of the migration crisis.

On the eve of this visit by the American delegation, a caravan of more than 10,000 migrants left on Christmas Eve from the southern border of Mexico in the direction U.S protest against the agreements between the two countries to further contain the migration flow.

O United States Customs and Border Protection also reported that in November it detained 242,000 migrants at the border with Mexico and detected a recovery in migrant arrivals in the first days of December.
