Protests against Milei’s measures extend to La Matanza, in the combative suburbs of Buenos Aires

This Thursday, several social organizations cut part of the traffic on National Road 3 in Argentinain the municipality of La Matanza, in Buenos Aires, during a protest against the economic measures announced in recent days by the ultraliberal government Javier Mileiwithout incidents or altercations occurring.

The road closure, of a federal nature, began at 10am local time (1pm GMT) with the participation of hundreds of protesters belonging to the Federation of Land, Housing and Habitat (FTV), the Classist and Combative Current (CCC), the Barrios de Pie Movement, the Neighborhood Front of the Central Workers of Argentina (CTA)he Canilitas Union and other provincial and local groups.

“(The mobilization) is a clear fight against the reinstallation of the conservative neoliberal model in its most cruel version,” the social leader told EFE. Luis D’Eliafrom FTV.

D’Elía highlighted that “behind Milei are the BlackRock group (an American multinational investment company), the Koch brothers (David and Charles Koch, two American billionaires known for their ultra-conservative ideas) and the red circle (…) that wants to put Argentina back into debt.”

“They come in search of lithium, gas, gold, oil and water”, assured the social leader, who warned the Government that “their fight in the streets will be until the DNU falls”, in reference to the decree of necessity and urgency (DNU) signed last week by Milei and which will come into force this Friday and with It will deregulate a large part of the Argentine economy.

“We are standing because we will not give up in the face of the destruction of our homeland.”both economically and with the delivery of our natural resources,” Beto Galeano, leader of the CTA in La Matanza, told EFE.

With almost two million inhabitants, The municipality of La Matanza is the most populous and poorest in the province of Buenos Aires and has traditionally been one of the most combative.

Although the protesters only allowed urban buses to pass on roads authorized for this type of vehicle, The police and security forces did not intervene on Route 3 to enforce the controversial security protocol promoted by the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, which prohibits the blocking of streets and highways during marches and proposes severe sanctions for those who do not comply.

The mobilizations against the economic measures announced by the ultraliberal economist Javier Milei have been multiplying in recent days in Buenos Aires and other cities in Argentina.

This Thursday, the country’s main union center, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) -Peronist-inspired- will decide whether to call a general strike in the country.
