Transparency Venezuela asks Guaidó to be held accountable for managing assets abroad

The NGO Transparency Venezuela urged the opponent on Tuesday Juan Guaidó and his team to render “quality” accounts with the publication of reports, review internal processes and apply controls over the assets they manage abroad since 2019, when he was recognized by various countries as interim president.

“On Transparency Venezuela We are convinced that a change is urgently needed in the way public resources are being managed, not only by the Government of Nicolas Maduro but also by the interim government, in addition to a comprehensive investigation into the complaints made “, the NGO said in a statement.

He added that opacity, discretion and the absence of effective controls in public management introduce “serious threats” to the interests of the common good and “break the faith” of citizens in the institutions of the State.

“The recent complaints that have been made about the failure to fulfill the responsibilities of the interim Government of Venezuela are of utmost concern “, they indicated.

The organization pointed out that the lack of transparency denounced by former deputies and various reports presuppose an opaque management of public finances.

Likewise, they indicated that after more than two years of managing public resources, mechanisms must be found to render quality accounts and disclose public information “overcoming the argument of ‘taking care of the beneficiaries of reprisals from (Nicolás) Maduro or expose the resources to the creditors’ ”.

“Opacity for security cannot continue to be used, as long as an independent comptroller system has not been strengthened”, express Transparency Venezuela.

That is why they made a call for them to respond to the country on all the alerts that have been exposed and to render accounts of “quality” by publishing the reports with supports and in open formats.

“That they promote independent investigations and present the results of the complaints made,” recommended the NGO.

On September 29, the Minister of Petroleum of Venezuela, Tareck El Aissami, announced that the Government will take national and international legal actions to “recover” the subsidiaries of PDVSA Monómeros Colombo Venezolanos SA and Citgo, managed by Guaidó since 2019, when it was recognized by the United States and Colombia as interim president.

El Aissami denounced alleged cases of corruption in both companies and blamed Guaidó and other leaders of the Venezuelan opposition, such as Leopoldo López, Julio Borges, Carlos Vecchio and Henrique Capriles.

At the beginning of September, the Colombian government decided to subject Monómeros to “maximum vigilance” due to its economic, legal and administrative situation.

In addition, the political party Primero Justicia (PJ), of which the two-time presidential candidate Henrique Capriles is a member, resigned from participating in the “spaces that serve” the management of assets abroad when Guaidó did not accept his proposals.

On the other hand, he reiterated that, “for more than a year”, within the training, there is “concern about the management of assets and public companies” abroad, for which “proposals were made that they were not taken into consideration ”.
