Ecuador: National Assembly supports the police and army and guarantees them pardons and amnesties

The National Assembly of Ecuador today issued a public declaration of support for the country’s Armed and Security Forces, shortly after the president Daniel Noboa declared the situation of “internal armed conflict” after the outbreak of an armed commando at a television station in Guayaquil and simultaneous attacks in several cities, leaving eight dead and two injured.

“We express our support for the Armed Forces, the National Police and all those responsible in charge of complying with and enforcing the Constitution and the law. “We recognize and value your dedication and effort in preserving the security, peace and lives of citizens”, states the declaration, urgently signed by the benches and representatives of all political organizations.

“This support includes the adoption of pardons and/or amnesties in cases that are necessary to guarantee the work of these entities”legislators anticipate.

The statement also mentions the situation in prisons of the country, after the riots in six penitentiary centers where Prisoners arrest prison officers, a situation that caused the president Noboa declares a state of emergency on Monday night.

“We support the actions carried out by the National Government in terms of security in the face of the current crisis, reestablish peace and order in the national territory. “We demand that those responsible for the prison escapes be determined and that they be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

The members of the National Assembly They emphasize that they are “working in unity, regardless of the different political and ideological currents” they represent. “The current situation requires collaboration and cohesion. “We are committed to facing this challenge responsibly and together”, they emphasize.

“In exercising political control, we will act with opportunity and prudence. We understand the current situation and will not harm the functions of any public authority, always maintaining respect for institutions during this state of exception”, indicates the statement signed by the Legislature, which reaffirms its “commitment to national unity, democratic stability and safety of all citizens.”
