Ecuador: Army detains two “terrorists” with weapons and ammunition in the border area with Peru

The Army of Ecuador reported this Wednesday the arrest of two armed people, whom it called “terrorists”, on the border with Peru. “Military and police officers were met with rifle shots. As a result of the military operation, two terrorists were detained,” he said on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

In the possession of the people who found a rifle, two submachine guns, two pistols, a revolver, six magazines, 66 cartridges, four Motorola radios and 64 doses of marijuana.

The military operation was carried out by Infantry Battalion “Motorized No. 1 Constitución” in the city of Huaquillas“in accordance with the Executive Order 111″, signed this Tuesday by the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa.

With the aforementioned decree, Noboa declared the existence of an “internal armed conflict” in the country and ordered the Armed Forces to carry out military actions to combat organized crime groups.

The decree was signed shortly after armed hooded men, now detained, broke into a television station in the city of Guayaquil and in the midst of an escalation of tension.

Ecuador experienced a day of terror on Tuesday with burning cars, explosive attacks, kidnapping of police officers and with the uncertainty about the situation of prison guards detained by inmates in prisons, about which there was still no official information this Wednesday.

Likewise, he reported that in the province of Tungurahua he will prosecute 15 people arrested for alleged terrorism as they “tried to carry out attacks outside” the social rehabilitation center in the city of Ambato, against police officers and prison guides.

The Public Ministry detailed that The prisoners had revolvers, submachine guns and ammunition.

Ecuador has been in a state of emergency for sixty dayswhich includes an overnight and early morning curfew due to a series of prison incidents that broke out on Monday and the “alleged escape” of one of the country’s most dangerous criminals.

The incidents began at a time when authorities were carrying out operations at a prison in Guayaquil looking for José Adolfo Macías, aka “Fito”leader of “The Choneros”, considered one of the most dangerous criminal gangs in the country due to its alleged links with mexican cartelsand who apparently escaped over the weekend.
