Russia exceeds 900 daily deaths from coronavirus for the first time

Russia today exceeded the threshold of 900 daily deaths from covid-19 for the first time since the start of the pandemic coronavirus, and registered for the fifth consecutive day more than 25,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.

According to the operational center for the fight against covid-19, on the last day 929 people have died from the disease contagious, a new high after eight consecutive days of record deaths.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Moscow (71) and Saint Petersburg (55).

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic they have died in Russia 212,625 people, although official statistics on excess deaths in the same period tripled this figure.

In turn, and in the absence of new restrictive measures, new infections continue for the fifth consecutive day above 25,000 in the country.

In the last day, 25,133 new infections were detected in the 85 Russian regions, of which 2,182 are asymptomatic cases.

On Tuesday the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and in charge of the fight against the pandemic, Tatiana Gólikova, said that currently there are three times more cases than in the same period of the previous year.

The upward trend is observed in 67 out of 85 Russian regions.

According to the authorities, 97% of the new cases can be attributed to the delta variant, more aggressive than the previous ones.

The Chumakov Center of the Russian Academy of Science is currently finalizing the preclinical phase of testing a vaccine against the delta variant.

Moscow continues to be the focus of the pandemic in Russia and registered 3,589 new cases in the last day, followed by Saint Petersburg (2,187) and the Moscow region (1,410).

In turn, 19,941 citizens were discharged in the last 24 hours after recovering from the coronavirus.

So far this pandemic has been identified in Russia 7,662,560 cases in all regions of the country.

For its part, the number of recovered patients in the country has increased to 6,778,900.

Russia is the fifth country with the most coronavirus cases in the world, behind only the US, India, Brazil and the UK.

For now, the authorities are ruling out new measures and are focusing on trying to increase the low vaccination rate, even with raffles that include cash prizes, cars and even homes.

To date, almost 49 million citizens have been vaccinated with the first dose (33.4% of the population) and 43.3 million have received the full schedule (29.6% of the population).
