The Vatican acquits the two accused of sexual abuse in a seminary in the first trial in its territory

The Vatican Court acquitted the two defendants today due to prescription and lack of evidence in the trial on alleged sexual abuse to one of the residents of the San Pío X preseminar, in the first trial carried out for this crime within the Vatican walls.

The acquittals of some of the crimes were by prescription, while other charges were dismissed for lack of evidence and considered not guilty, according to the sentence read today in the classroom installed in the Vatican Museums.

The main accused was the priest Gabriele Martinelli, 28, who is attributed a series of abuses to another student between 2007 and 2012, while the other was the former rector Enrico Radice, 71, for allegedly covering up and protecting Martinelli.
