Mexico: local leader of the opposition party shot dead in the state of Veracruz

A local leader of the opposition Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) was shot dead this Saturday in the state of Veracruz, which is facing an electoral process to define its governor and 50 deputies (parliamentarians).

The victim was identified as Alejandro Naredo, president of the Municipal Committee of the PRD in the municipality of Cuitláhuac, and that he was attacked by gunfire on a public street, as confirmed to EFE by the authorities of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

The leader of the party and the taxi drivers’ union was attacked in Colonia Oaxaca, the seat of the municipality, an area located in the central mountainous region of Veracruz.

The states with the most recorded attacks, including murders, attacks, armed attacks, kidnappings, disappearances and threats, were Guerrero (91), Guanajuato (64), Zacatecas (43), Veracruz (42) and Michoacán and Chiapas, with 38 each. .
