Stop or else? Discussions around a free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and MERCOSUR, which began in 1999, continue to face obstacles but are now facing their final obstacle. A “deal” with this market, uniting Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, was supposed to be announced in early December on the sidelines of COP 28, but the rise to power in Argentina of populist Javier Miley delayed the process.
