He also highlighted, as he did on his social networks during the political campaign period, that it is necessary to have a qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly, with a pro-government majority, to continue the emergency regime measure, implemented by his Government to combat gangs.

This regime has been implemented since March 2022 and has become the Executive’s main and only action against gangs, despite allegations that it violates human rights.

“Go to the voting centers,” he said. and reminded citizens that they can vote with a single valid and expired identity document, and stressed that “they will go in complete safety”.

“Let’s all do our part (…) it is the citizen’s duty to vote and express, in their vote, which path they want for El Salvador”, he said.

And he added: “I appeal to you, let’s go out and vote.”

This is the third time that Bukele He holds a press conference in the middle of election day, as he did in the 2021 and 2019 elections.

Bukele42 years old, is the big favorite in these elections in which five candidates from opposition parties are also competing, including the historic Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena, right) and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN, left), with practically no chance of victory, according to the polls.

He is the first president of El Salvador’s democratic stage with the option of seeking immediate re-election and, if he wins, he would be the first to repeat the position despite the Constitution not allowing this.
