Donald Trump: appeals court rejects former US president’s request for immunity from criminal liability

No, he’s not untouchable. Donald Trump cannot claim any immunity as a former president, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday. Despite Donald Trump’s candidacy, the decision clears the way for his trial in Washington, where he is accused of attempting to illegally overturn the 2020 election results.

“We weighed former President Trump’s asserted interest in immunity against the vital public interest in continuing this proceeding,” the three appeals court judges wrote in their decision affirming the trial decision in December.
