Ukraine: Five civilians killed in Russian bombings

New Russian bombings in eastern and southern Ukraine killed five civilians on Tuesday. Regional authorities are also reporting power outages following the strikes.

In the Kharkov region (eastern part of the country), two men were killed and two were injured in the village of Kurilovka near the city of Kupyansk after shelling of an agricultural facility in the morning, said Governor Oleg Sinegubov. Three hours later, the town of Volchansk, about 90 kilometers northeast of the Russian border, came under artillery fire, killing a 61-year-old woman and wounding another 51-year-old woman at a local market, the governor said.

In the Kherson region (south), also subject to daily Russian shelling, an 83-year-old woman was fatally wounded in the courtyard of her house in the village of Lvovoe, which was damaged by night shelling, said regional governor Alexander Prokudin. A 64-year-old man also died as a result of artillery shelling in the city of Nikopol (southeast Ukraine), said the governor of the Dnepropetrovsk region (center-east) Sergei Lysak.

“Massive Drone Attack”

Overnight, Russia fired 23 Shahed-type land mine drones of Iranian design at its neighbor, the Ukrainian Air Force reported, adding that it shot down 16 such devices in the Kherson region. Zaporozhye (south of the country) and Dnepropetrovsk.

Governor Sergei Lysak reported a “massive drone attack” on the area for the second night in a row. According to him, ten drones were shot down over the region, adding that several more hit targets, including an energy facility and infrastructure, in the regional center of Dnepr.

In occupied territory in eastern Ukraine, three civilians were killed and another wounded in a Ukrainian strike in Kremennaya in the Lunansk region, authorities identified by Moscow said. The victim was “delivered to a medical facility in the city of Rubezhnoye due to an injury received as a result of a mine explosion.”
