AMLO rejects citizen march to defend election integrity

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López ObradorThis Monday rejected the ‘March for our democracy’ in which hundreds of thousands of citizens protested on Sunday to defend the autonomy of the June 2 elections.

The president stated in his morning conference that the demonstration was led by former government leaders, now in opposition, who “Now they dress like Democratswhen they were the most tenacious rapists in the world people’s rights”.

“Like yesterday’s demonstration, because whoever was there before, whether in the Government or who benefited from corruption, is dissatisfied and wants to return, and I also want them to return, but what they stole“, He explained López Worker.

The Mexican ruler referred to the ‘March for our democracy‘ which brought together around 200 citizen groups under the alliance ‘Units‘ in more than 100 cities Mexico and the world denouncing that “free voting is at risk” heading into the presidential elections on June 2nd.

The protesters denounced that the elections are in danger due to the violence of the drug traffickingwith dozens of politicians murdered so far in the process, and for the reforms it promotes López Obradorintended to replace the National Electoral Institute (INE), autonomous body that organizes elections.

But López Obrador argued that defenders of “oligarchy” which he says existed before he took power in 2018.

“What there was was the dominance of a corrupt oligarchy“Oligarchy is the government of a minority, the government of the rich, democracy is the government of the people, the democracy they defend is that of power without the people.”he commented.

The president indicated that his opponents who marched are behind campaigns that seek to link him to drug trafficking following a report by the American media ProPública of an investigation into the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) about the supposed 2 million dollars that Lot’s campaign receivedPez Worker in 2006.

“They want democracy without people, only for minorities, that’s why they’re angry and the campaigns call me narcopresidentbut since I have moral authority, I am protected”, he opined.
