Maduro says the people “will once again obtain a great victory” in the presidential elections

The representative of Venezuela, Nicolás Madurosaid this Tuesday that the people “will win a great victory again”in the presidential elections on July 28, for which he has not yet confirmed whether he will seek a second re-election, although his party considers this a given.

We are going to elections and I am sure that the people will fight their battle again and will once again win a great victory.“, said the president, hours after the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced the date of the elections.

He ensured that the calendar presented by the CNE -which includes a 21-day campaign, between July 4th and 25th- is “sacred word”, and ruled out the possibility of suspending the elections, an idea, he denounced, spread by some opposition leaders.

The party in power guarantees that Maduro, in power since 2013, will seek a third term, although the president has not confirmed his candidacy, while, on the part of the opposition, the one chosen by the majority in the October primaries, Maria Corina Machadoremains disqualified from holding elected office and, therefore, from running for president.

The date chosen for this competition was the one that received the greatest support from political organizations during the consultation process that promoted the National Assembly (Parliament), controlled by the chavismoamong them from the Movement We are Venezuelathe closest ally of the ruling party PSUV.
