Truce in the Gaza Strip: Hamas blockade, American pressure… hope for an agreement before the start of Ramadan has disappeared?

The truce was concluded at the beginning of Ramadan. The message would be strong and undoubtedly well received in Arab countries and Western offices. Unfortunately, hopes that the Israeli government and Hamas will sign a second ceasefire agreement on Sunday evening since the outbreak of war caused by the October 7 attack appear to be fading.

Gathered in Cairo by mediating powers Egypt, Qatar and the United States, representatives of the Palestinian Islamist movement left the country on Thursday, saying they would not compromise on their demands. US President Joe Biden, for his part, acknowledged on Friday that it would be “difficult” to achieve a ceasefire before the start of the Muslim month of fasting – a goal he nevertheless set for himself in early March.
